FOR IMMEDIATE PRESS RELEASE Naperville, IL – July 23rd, 2021 – The KLA Schools of Naperville and Plainfield have been fully immersed in their summer program this month. The theme this year is the splendors of nature, and according to the schools, “the children are having an incredible summer filled with great experiences.” This summer, field trips were again on the calendar for the older children, and they have been relishing every bus trip to a new location. Overall, the general feeling is that everyone is grateful for some normalcy in their lives this summer.
Carrie Hemmer, the admissions director for the schools, was thrilled that we could have her favorite event, International Mud Day, this year. Unfortunately, last year it was canceled due to the strict COVID protocols. Carrie says, “Mud day is an amazing experience for the children; they get to play in the mud! Something they are usually told to avoid. The sensation of stepping in and kneading wet mud is quite gratifying.” The pictures from the day speak a thousand words; the children loved every minute.
Heather Fugate, the school principal at Naperville, shared how the schools celebrated July 4 this year. “We decided to do something a little different than our traditional parade. We projected virtual fireworks on a screen in our STEM atelier and had a dance party with a special American-themed playlist. The children were able to dance while decked out in red, white, and blue and were given glow bracelets and necklaces. Even our baby nidos visited the party and enjoyed the festivities. It is so great to have our common areas open again for all the children to enjoy.”
Erica Kegel, the principal at the Plainfield location, noted that a highlight this summer had been the creative cooking experiences. She said, “the children have been making organic, yummy treats every other Friday this summer. Some of the great recipes have been Ants on a log (nut butter, celery, and raisins), Berry popsicles, and apple nachos (apples, warm nut butter, cinnamon, and optional coconut flakes).” Erica also added that getting into the kitchen is a great way to spend some time with your children this summer.
Selvei Rajkumar, managing director, and owner of both the Naperville and Plainfield KLA Schools said that the best way to finish off the month was with a fine arts festival. “July 23, both schools were able to host this event in person, as opposed to last year’s slide show on Zoom. We were thrilled to showcase the children’s artwork throughout the school. Recognizing the children in this way is a wonderful way to boost their self-esteem and encourage their love for art education”.
Although the pandemic is starting to subside, the schools are still carefully monitoring guidance. Carrie Hemmer, the health and safety spokesperson for KLA, says, “We are committed to ongoing top-notch health and safety practices for as long as necessary. We will continue to follow the CDC guidelines and keep and follow any changes announced from Governor Pritzker, the CDC, and DCFS.”
KLA has open enrollment right now and is offering personalized virtual and in-person Saturday visits by appointment. Please contact Carrie Hemmer, our admissions director, to schedule a visit to the schools.
