Literacy (Summer Reading and Writing)
Studies say summer reading programs boost student achievement and the students who participated in summer reading programs entered the following school year with a positive attitude about reading, more confident in the classroom, read beyond what was required, and perceive reading as important.
Students will be given opportunities to Read and Write everyday.

We give opportunities for writing that students see as meaningful and that challenge them to think creatively in their Entrepreneurship project, STEM study topics and concerns of interest to them which will lead to a fuller and more lasting command of the essential skills of writing.
S.T.E.M – Instilling a life-long love for Science, Technology, Engineering & Math
Students engage in questioning, problem solving, collaboration, and hands-on activities while they address real life issues. Teachers, as facilitators, guide students through the problem-solving process and plan projects that lead to mastery of content and STEM proficiency. STEM proficient students are able to answer complex questions, investigate global issues, and develop solutions for challenges and real world problems while applying the rigor of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics content in a seamless fashion.
STEM proficient students are logical thinkers, effective communicators and are technologically, scientifically, and mathematically literate.
STEM, in the real world as practiced by professionals, is about examining, exploring, and solving real life problems. We foster creativity, curiosity and a passion for problem solving through our STEM education.
STEM is about using math and science to solve real-world challenges and problems. This applied, project-based way of teaching and learning allows students to understand and appreciate the relevancy of their work to their own lives and the world around them. Once they grasp core concepts, students are able to choose a problem and use their own creativity and curiosity to research, design, test and improve a viable solution.
At KLA Schools, Children analyzes the community need, a real life problem and does a project on that topic, for the entire summer and present the outcome to the City Mayor.
Career Exposure including Entrepreneurship
The Career Exposure including Entrepreneurship program teach young students that people assume roles as individuals, consumers, and workers in their family, community, and the world around them. Children will do an Entrepreneurship project, come up with a business plan understand the Entrepreneurship Eco-system which teaches them the basic concepts of business and economics and how education is relevant to the workplace.
Students learn the entrepreneurship ecosystem which includes Policy made up of Government and Leadership, Financial Capital, Culture formed with successes and societal norms, Supports – Infrastructure including work space, telephone, electricity, water, gas, transportation, Support professions such as Accountant, Attorney, Bankers and Technical advisers, Human Capital – labor required for the success of the business, Market – early customers that believes in the business etc.,
They will learn that Accountant supports with the money and taxes, Attorney helps with the law and policies, Bankers help with the loan, Technical advisers help with the product and innovation.
We will bring an Entrepreneur and other support professionals to explain what they do and how they support the business.
Visual Programming / Creative Computing
Coding is the new literacy! With ScratchJr, young children (ages 5-7) and Scratch (age 8 and above) can program their own interactive stories and games. In the process, they learn to solve problems, design projects, and express themselves creatively on the computer.
Students learn the history of computing, get creative with coding using Scratch, a Visual programming language developed by MIT Lab (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) . Students can animate their name, animate characters, create interactive stories, games and share their stories with the community.
Scratch is a programming language and an online community where children can program and share interactive media such as stories, games, and animation with people from all over the world. As children create with Scratch, they learn to think creatively, work collaboratively, and reason systematically. Scratch is designed and maintained by the Lifelong Kindergarten group at the MIT Media Lab.
ScratchJr is highly focused on educating young children and providing them the capability to communicate technologically in the modern world. The ScratchJr team desired the following knowledge outcomes in young students:
For children to gain a better understanding of mathematics and literacy.
For children to become familiar with classifications of various computer software and mathematical components and to build foundational knowledge structures across domains.
For children to become better problem-solvers and thinkers, as well as gain a better understanding of science and software development.
KLA Schools of Plainfield has a large garden behind the Playground with designated garden beds for each age group. Seeding tray is used to grow seeds in the classroom starting from April which is then planted in the garden by children with Parent involvement by the end of May.
The objectives are to help children begin to understand the work that goes into producing food, enabling them to see that food doesn’t just “come from the store.” It also offers children opportunities for activities related to the life sciences, social studies, physical development and health, language arts, mathematics, and fine arts.
Children learn about Photosynthesis, Transpiration, Respiration and how water, sunlight, oxygen in balance are required for the plants to grow.
Children gets introduced to all Illinois Early Learning Standards and benchmarks by doing the gardening project.
Fine Arts Festival
Arts enable students to express their creativity and imagination which is beyond logic.
The KLA Schools of Plainfield annual fine arts festival showcases the talents of students throughout the school from Baby Nido to School Age. The event features hundreds of pieces of artwork, including 3-D works, ceramics, computer imagery, and more.
The festival benefits our students by giving them an opportunity to be recognized for their creative efforts and abilities. It is also an excellent opportunity for our community to see the impact of quality fine arts education programs and to experience the joy of participating in the arts.
Splash Days, Creative Cooking & More…
Once a week, students have splash days to play with water and have fun in the sun!
Children are introduced to creative cooking with recipes, sometimes including the vegetables and fruits from our garden that they grew.
Incorporating a second language into their daily routines, children are able to benefit from increased verbal communication, reasoning and even mathematical skills!
